Marian thistle capsules
Marian thistle or silybum marianum is a milk thistle which grows 100 to 200 cm tall. It bears fruits,
called the brown achenes, which build the base of the capsules. They can be found in North Africa,
Asia, the South and in Central Europe. The seeds are used as a stimulus for the gallbladder and is
claimed to protect the liver against poisons. Its potent extract is used in medicine under the name
silymarin, a flavonoid complex.
Silymarin is a hepatoprotective (antihepatotoxic), antioxidant, thus stabilizing and protecting the
membrane lipids of the liver cells.
The indications for the animals are the support for the liver functions in case of a liver infection as
well as actions against gallbladder troubles.
We recommend a 2 month treatment for acute cases, but it can be extended to 6 month for more
chronic cases.
The dosage is linked to the animal's weight : please specify if it's a cat or a dog and indicate its
weight. The order is based on a 2 month treatment; please specify if you wish to order a larger
quantity.
